Ironclad Creative CIC exists to support writers and theatre-makers, with training, networking and chances to showcase their work.
The Ironclad Creative Short Story Competition WINTER 2023 is for both published and unpublished writers. We’re looking for original writing in English and you can be from anywhere in the world.
PRIZES:
The winning writer will be offered a prize of £100 and publication in the anthology.
The second place writer will be offered a prize of £50 and publication in the anthology.
Two further shortlisted writers will be offered prizes of £25 each, and publication in the anthology.
Up to 10 other longlisted writers will be offered publication in the anthology (depending on the length of the winning, second place and shortlisted stories)

Please read the following eligibility criteria carefully before submitting. Submitting your work is taken as acceptance of the entry rules.
- The Ironclad Short Story Competition Winter 2023 is open to both published and unpublished writers from anywhere in the world responding to the prompt word of DUSK.
- The cost of submission per entry is £6.00. All proceeds will be used in the administration of the award and to support Ironclad Creative CIC in our mission to provide networking, training, and support for writers and theatre-makers, especially those from low incomes.
- Unless you have been given permission by Ironclad Creative CIC to enter one submission for free, then you must pay the £6.00 entry per submission for the work to be eligible.
- Only submissions received and paid for by 23:59 (UK time) on 16th November 2023 will be considered.
- Entries that are not paid for or are submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
- Both published and unpublished authors are welcome to submit, but stories must not have been previously published (online or in print).
- The story must be the work of the author and must not infringe upon the intellectual property and copyright of any person or entity.
- Entries can be any length but must not exceed 6,000 words.
- Authors can be any age.
- Authors can submit multiple entries - though they must ensure they make this clear on their Paypal reference and entry email.
- Stories must be written in English - if translated, stories must be clearly marked as ‘Translated’ and the translator credited - if different from the author.
- Please submit your work as an email attachment after paying via the Paypal. Please ensure your email Title includes your name & title of the story and that matches the reference information you’ve given on Paypal.
- Please submit your work in Word or PDF.
- Please do not include your name on the submission itself, just in the email. That way we can judge your story anonymously.
- We are a small team and our process is pretty manual still. You will be notified within FIVE DAYS that we have matched your payment with your work and your story has been accepted.
- We’ll aim to let all entries know if they’ve reached our Longlist by email.
- We do not offer editorial feedback.
- The judging decision of Ironclad Creative CIC and our judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- We will have the exclusive right to publish the selected Longlisted, shortlisted second place and winning stories in our anthology - though we will contact all relevant authors to gain explicit permission when we announce the selected works.
- Prizes: The winner will receive a cash prize of £100, a Second Place author will receive a cash prize of £50 and two further shortlisted authors will receive a cash prize of £25. All the prize winning authors, and a selection of longlisted authors will be offered publication in our anthology which will be available via Kindle Direct Publishing.
- Only submissions which meet all our terms and conditions will be considered.
- By entering the Ironclad Creative Short Story Competition Winter 2023, each entrant agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions.
